  • Experience serving as a player-coach who balances hands-on development with team leadership.
  • Experience leading engineers and delivering complex production software.
  • Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Expertise in at least one modern web framework, such as React, Angular, Vue, or Svelte.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, testing, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Experience planning technical work, estimating delivery, and managing dependencies and risks.
  • Ability to move comfortably between coding, architecture, code review, mentorship, planning, and client communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • A thoughtful approach to giving and receiving feedback.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in a consulting or agency environment.
  • Experience with Node.js, React Native, RxJS, or cloud platforms.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems, observability, and production operations.
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows.
  • Experience supporting distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • Interest in open source, technical writing, public speaking, or community events.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test, review, and ship production code as a core part of the role.
  • Lead through active participation in implementation and technical problem-solving.
  • Balance individual engineering contributions with team leadership and project delivery.
  • Lead the technical delivery of client projects from discovery through launch and ongoing development.
  • Work with clients to understand business goals, define project requirements, and establish realistic delivery plans.
  • Translate product and business needs into clear technical direction for the engineering team.
  • Establish technical direction and translate architectural decisions into working software.
  • Coordinate engineering work, identify dependencies, and address delivery risks early.
  • Review pull requests and provide specific, actionable feedback.
  • Pair with engineers to solve complex problems and improve implementation quality.
  • Mentor engineers while remaining accountable for individual engineering deliverables.
  • Step into critical areas of the codebase to unblock the team and protect delivery commitments.
  • Communicate project progress, technical tradeoffs, and risks clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Improve team practices, development workflows, and delivery processes.
  • Support reliable releases and help resolve production issues.
  • Contribute to This Dot's technical community through articles, events, podcasts, open-source work, or internal learning sessions.
